Bringing Back the Hoop
Portland, ME — In case you haven’t heard, hula hooping is back, though it’s 20 and 30-something hipster adherents have dropped the “hula” and just call it “hooping.”
They have also foregone the lightweight whammo kiddie hoops and are making their own out of heavy irrigation tubing and decorating them with electrical tape. The craze has made its way into New York gyms and out to the legendary Burning Man Festival in Nevada.
But as WBUR’s Sean Cole reports, it all started with one Colorado rock band.
