BOSTON, Mass. — Commencement season is in full swing in Massachusetts. Feminist writer Gloria Steinem was the speaker at her alma mater, Smith College, yesterday. It marked the 50th anniversary of her graduation.
At Brandeis University, writer Thomas Friedman called on graduates to have passion for their work, while NBA Champion and civil rights leader Bill Russell spoke to graduates at Suffolk University.
And it was something of a homecoming at Tufts University, where New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the graduates.
He joked about growing up in Medford, and how his mother would like the students to keep the noise down. He also offered the graduate five key pieces of advice, reminding them the importance of respecting others and taking risks.
