BOSTON, Mass. — Independence day crowds flocked to the Esplanade along the Charles River early Wednesday morning, some arriving in the wee hours.

The gates opened at 5 am so revelers lined up early to get the best seats for the annual Boston Pops concert, which was followed by a spectacular 25-minute fireworks show.

WBUR’s Sarah Bush spent some time on the Esplanade and sent us this audio postcard.
