GM Backs Emerging Ethanol

General Motors is backing a Boston renewable energy company to produce ethanol that's not made from food sources.

Mascoma, which turns biomass such as grasses and wood pulp into the fuel additive ethanol, has already raised $50 million to improve and implement its technology.
