MGH Suspends Pediatric Cardiac Surgeries

Massachusetts General Hospital is suspending its Pediatric Cardiac Surgery program after mistakes during two recent open heart surgeries.

Both babies survived the operations, but one suffered neurological damage.

Dr. David Torchiana is head of Massachusetts General Physicians Organization. He joined WBUR to talk about why the hospital is suspending a program that started during the 1960s.
