Published July 15, 2009  Updated July 16

Patrick administration officials say they will build the state’s first official memorial honoring service members killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The memorial will be interactive and computer-based, and will include a touch-screen podium kiosk and a large flat-screen television. Visitors will be able to search for service members as well as for other information on the military and military history.

“The brave men and women of Massachusetts who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and and Afghanistan deserve our utmost respect, recognition and the ability to live on through this memorial,” Lieutenant Governor Timothy  Murray said in a statement.

The memorial will be housed for a year in Memorial Hall at the state house, then travel to cities and towns across Massachusetts.
