Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling says he has “some interest” in running for the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by the death of Democrat Edward M. Kennedy.

In a statement posted Wednesday on his blog, 38pitches.weei.com, Schilling said that while his family and gaming company 38 Studios are priorities, he does have some interest in a campaign.

He says that being said, getting from where he is to where he would have to be as a candidate, “many, many things would have to align themselves.”

Schilling lives in suburban Boston and is a registered independent, but has been a longtime Republican supporter. He campaigned for President George W. Bush in 2004 and Sen. John McCain in 2008.

Kennedy died last week at age 77 from a brain tumor.

I think it’s time for Mr. Schilling to betake himself back to Texas where he so obviously belongs.
