North Shore Soldier Killed In Iraq

A soldier from Massachusetts has been killed in Iraq, a city spokeswoman said.

Jordan Shay, 22, was killed Tuesday. The Department of Defense did not immediately release details.

The Newburyport Daily News reports that Shay grew up in Amesbury and is 2005 graduate of Amesbury High School whose family recently moved to Newburyport.

Newburyport police said they helped the Army notify the family of his death.

Flags in both communities have been lowered to half-staff.
