WBURLynch’s Statement On Not Seeking Kennedy’s Seat

Massachusetts Congressman Stephen Lynch released the following statement on Tuesday:

After thorough consideration I have decided that I will not be a candidate for the Special U.S. Senate race to succeed Edward M. Kennedy.

The challenge of putting together the resources and organization necessary to wage a competitive statewide campaign in less than 90 days is insurmountable.

Margaret and I are thankful for the words of encouragement and support over the last few weeks.

I have been given a huge honor and responsibility by the families of the 9th Congressional District of Massachusetts. I will continue to try to live up to their highest expectations.

Congressman Lynch has made a very nice statement and I wish him well. I plan to take out nomination papers for the seat later this week. Whereas I do not have the very things, orginization and resorces, which bring Rep. Lynch to his decision, I do have the fundimental concept that Massachusetts should send the first openly gay man to the United States Senate in January. I, unlike Martha Coakley supported the new drug law and all the implications there with… Our national drug laws have doubled our prison populations and upset forign countries, most notably Mexico in more recent times. I want to be very proactive on the issue unlike Martha Coakley who goes the opposite route with respect to countless decades of failed drug laws. This is my message and the Massachusetts should be sending to Washington.
