The Associated PressMullan Named As New Transportation Chief

Gov. Deval Patrick has found a new transportation secretary.

A top administration aide tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that Jeffrey Mullan is being named to the job to replace James Aloisi. The person spoke on condition of anonymity before the formal announcement.

Mullan was an undersecretary to Aloisi who went to the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority to oversee its dissolution.

Last Friday, Aloisi told Patrick he did not want to be considered for the new chief executive officer’s job being created Nov. 1 under a consolidation of Massachusetts transportation services. His last day will be Oct. 31.

Aloisi was hired only in January.

The new plan calls for consolidating an array of transportation agencies and eliminating the turnpike authority.
