The Taliban is a very dangerious element that has only been reduced and al-Qaida may or not be gotten rid of. The Taliban has an extreamist agenda, wants woman totally marginilized and gays dead, has no flexablity with regard to relidgious freedoms or any other freedoms aside from its own narrow doctrines. The question for Obama is just what U.S. interests are with respect to maintaining an Afganistan which fits into a world order that is acceptable to the United States ie not Taliban and in following just what price his country is ready to pay to advance those interests in the region.
I, personally think that I am better quilified to be the next United States Senator from Massachusetts than is Martha and while I am not a female, I would in effect become the first openly gay man to serve in the United States Senate and that would be a touchstone affirmative action in itself as well as an affirmation of the Democratic Party's greatest principals.
