GOP’s Burr Ends Bid For Mass. Senate Seat
Canton Selectman Bob Burr is ending his campaign for the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Edward M. Kennedy.
Burr, a Republican, said Monday he’s throwing his support behind state Sen. Scott Brown, a fellow Republican from Wrentham.
Burr said he decided to drop his bid after failing to collect the 10,000 signatures needed to secure a place on the Republican primary ballot. Tuesday is the deadline for submitting signatures to local city and town clerks.
Brown last week turned in 17,000 certified signatures to the secretary of state’s office.
There are four Democrats also vying for the seat, including Attorney General Martha Coakley, City Year founder Alan Khazei, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca.
