Mass. Plans Public Hearing On Casino, Gaming Bills

The public is being given a chance to weigh on more than a dozen gaming bills, including several allowing the state to license resort style casinos in Massachusetts for the first time.

Other bills set for a public hearing next week would allow slot machines at racetracks, create a network of video lottery terminals and increase the purse accounts on horse and dog races.

Pressure has been mounting on Beacon Hill for expanded gambling in Massachusetts as the state struggles with plummeting revenues.

Gov. Deval Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray and House Speaker Robert DeLeo all back the push for casinos.

The hearing by the Economic Development Committee is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Statehouse.
