Boston has the landscape and the cityscape that is to be revered but answers aren't in the 'shovel ready' projects. This economic downturn has given us the time to reevaluate our means of working, thinking and designing so we truly contribute to the betterment of society and the profession of design once we step out of the economic downturn. We need to use it wisely.

I work in Fort Point, and I completely agree with Michele Yeeles - this area could definitely use some stores, maybe a Whole Foods and a CVS, to offer workers and residents more options. There are some good restaurants, bakeries (Flour), and some of the local artists sell their wares, but a few more carefully chosen stores could help to solidify the neighborhood. No McDonalds! But maybe the kind of fun and funky stores that used to populate Harvard Square.

I vote for rental housing with modern, green features. Use of solar panels, wind energy, water reclamation, insulation, zero-carbon footprint, etc, etc...

I'm almost tired of seeing documentaries of Koreans and Japanese doing exactly this. I almost never see Americans or Europeans in a documentary about green architecture in mainstream media. Is it that much of a stretch for the news to cover? Frustrated...

Make it a project, but not only that. A model for the rest of the world to admire and follow.

John, there are plans to build an six-story apartment complex next to the Barking Crab and courthouse. Gale International has approval and I believe the financing but may be holding off due to the economy.

It is Phase I of his Seaport Square project.

Why not build rental housing? There is obviously a need. Rents in the city are far too high.
