Michelle-
I only found out about Kyle's passing today and it shook me. If I only knew then what I know now about Kyle. I put a lot on him (and the other guys)that first year and he never buckled, never blinked. It seems so long ago. I consider myself lucky to have known Kyle. And I consider all of us lucky to have kids like Kyle willing and able to sacrifice all they have so that the rest of us can live like we do. God Bless you Kyle. And thank you.

Michelle,

It is clear you remember Kyle well. You write a great depiction of his humble character. He was a star that shined all by himself. No lights, cameras, or microphones were neccessay to notice him.

I will say a couple of things. I believe his love for football eventually took a back seat to his goals of becoming a Marine Officer, school, and girls of course. I don't think he ever really felt pressure. I believe he would have been a star at Northeastern or any other school he declined a scholarship to. He was that good.

It was great of you to have written in the wake of Kyle's passing, it was a great tribute to Kyle and I hope many of his teamates and friends come across this article.

Dear Michelle, This is a wonderful tribute to Kyle. I remember you so well from those early days of the return of St. A's football, your notebook and recorder always at hand. From the start, Kyle told me of his dream to become a Marine pilot and his focus on that goal came to dominate his decisions about football, courses, ROTC, and so on. Many of his former teammates have contacted me and they all say the same thing: he fulfilled his dream, as dangerous as he knew it would be, and for that they admire and respect him greatly. Thank you for your remarks. God bless, Fr. John (former team chaplain)

What a beautiful tribute to Capt. Van De Giesen. I hope his family also knows that his loss is felt by those who never knew him personally at all.
