GOP’s Robinson Says He’ll Join Mass. Senate Race
BOSTON — Another Republican says he has the signatures needed to be a candidate to succeed the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.
Jack E. Robinson planned to file 11,300 certified names on Thursday afternoon. He needed to gather 10,000 to become an official candidate and join state Sen. Scott Brown on the Dec. 8 primary ballot.
Robinson has become something of a perennial candidate. He first ran against Kennedy in 2000 and lost. He lost a campaign for secretary of state in 2002 and the U.S. House in 2006.
The Duxbury resident is an attorney who founded his own cell phone company.
Kennedy died Aug. 25 of brain cancer. Four Democrats are also in the race: Attorney General Martha Coakley, U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano, City Year co-founder Alan Khazei and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca.
