The Associated PressSarno Re-Elected Mayor Of Springfield

Published November 3, 2009

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno has been returned to office for a second term in the state’s third-largest city.

Sarno earned a more than 2-to-1 advantage over City Councilor Bud Williams, who was bidding to become the city’s first black mayor. Sarno was first elected in 2007.

Voters on Tuesday also overwhelmingly approved a change in the city charter calling for future mayors to be elected to four-year rather than two-year terms. Sarno will serve a two-year term, but the change means the next mayor elected in 2011 will serve for four years.

  • congratulations to Mayor Sarno I do hope you will be able to help the citizens of springfield by taking away that trash fee, also the bulk trash fee is also crazy it should be one or the other that is the reason why there is always dumping in the city.
