Despite Indictment, Councilor Turner Easily Wins Re-Election
Despite a pending federal corruption indictment against him, embattled City Councilor Chuck Turner has easily won his bid for re-election.
Still vigorously maintaining he did nothing wrong, Turner said he will now turn his attention to trying to get the U.S. attorney’s office to drop the charges against him.
Turner said he isn’t allowed to hold any chairmanships until the case is resolved, according to a ruling by the City Council president.
“The only way for me to have my full powers as a councilor restored would be to have the case dismissed,” Turner said. “So my lawyers are now preparing the motion to dismiss.”
Turner’s push comes days after state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, who was also indicted on federal bribery charges, made a similar case to have the charges against her dropped.
