Wednesday Morning Roundup
Here’s a brief look at what’s being said in the political and media world about the Senate race.
On Being Green
The Democratic candidates talked green on Tuesday — even though the environment is not one of the top concerns of voters. That may have been the reason for the event’s low turnout, but WBUR’s Monica Brady-Myerov was there and wrote about it.
Brady-Myerov also blogged on the candidates’ efforts to “out-green” each other at the forum — including Michael Capuano’s claim that he’s earned enough green points to drive a Humvee for the rest of his life and still come out on top.
Matt Viser of the Boston Globe also reported on the event, and has the candidates’ answers to a question on the kind of cars they drive (Capuano and Martha Coakley both said they drive a Ford Escape).
Another Newcomer: Khazei
In a profile of Alan Khazei, Jenna Russell of the Boston Globe describes the City Year co-founder as a “political newcomer with a passion to serve.”
‘Be Like Mike’
Scott Lehigh of the Boston Globe says he was a mild-mannered kind of guy until Capuano came along and “ignited my sense of grievance.” Lehigh concludes: “Stand up, get mad, and be like Mike!”
On The Abortion Issue
Erika Lovley of Politico wrote about abortion being a key issue in the race. Lovley talks to a political strategist who says the abortion debate reveals one of the main distinctions between Coakley and Capuano: the insider versus the outsider.
‘The Kennedy Seat’
The Boston Globe’s Eric Moskowitz reported on the decision by the late senator’s son, Ted Kennedy Jr., to steer clear of the race for his father’s seat. Kennedy told Moskowitz the four Democratic candidates share similar philosophies and he thought voters would choose a candidate largely on biography and style.
