New Cahill Ad Touts Scandal-Free Mass. Lottery

State Treasurer and independent candidate for governor Timothy Cahill is launching a new television ad, boasting that he's run the state lottery "with no scandals and record returns."

In the 30-second spot, Cahill said he also created a school construction program that cut costs.

The recession took a toll on the lottery's returns, and even Cahill complained that lawmakers had unrealistic expectations about the amount of revenue it could produce. Cahill said, however, that lottery revenues exceeded expectations during the last fiscal year.

Cahill was also the subject of a State Ethics Commission investigation into whether he acted improperly by providing business to a scratch ticket maker who was making consulting payments to Cahill's friend.

The commission determined last year that the matter did not warrant further action.

This program aired on August 25, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
