WBUREffort To Revive New Bedford Guardian Angels Stalled

NEW BEDFORD — An effort to organize a volunteer crime patrol group in New Bedford has stalled.

After two years of trying to get the local chapter of the Guardian Angels started, school teacher Henry Bousquet says he’s leaving because of his busy schedule, and frustrating public apathy.

“There’s no one stepping up to help, despite your efforts to recruit,  and despite the need for it. There’s a grievous need for additional public safety personnel of some kind on the streets of New Bedford,” Bousquet said.

Others involved in the organizing effort say they will continue their work.

New Bedford’s first Guardian Angels chapter started in 1983, but fizzled within two years.
