Officials: Guns, SUV Connected To Mattapan Slayings Found

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino says police have recovered guns and an SUV that may be connected to the early Tuesday Mattapan shooting that left four people dead, including a toddler.

Investigators are now analyzing the findings for forensic evidence.

Witnesses saw the Ford SUV that is now in police custody fleeing the scene of the murders and have confirmed that it had belonged to one of the shooting's victims.

Menino and Boston Police officials said Thursday they were able to move ahead with the investigation thanks to tips from the community.

Late Wednesday night, police officers executed a search warrant, according to Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis. Davis did not detail the location of the search or what was discovered, but did say they "were able to obtain some really important evidence in this case."

A 2-year-old boy and three adults were killed in the shooting at about 1 a.m. Tuesday in the city’s Mattapan section. A fifth victim remains clinging to life in a hospital.

The slayings have outraged city officials and law enforcement, and frightened residents.
