Republican Rep. Jeff Perry is denying claims he did nothing to help the victim of an illegal strip search in Wareham almost 20 years ago. Perry, a Wareham police sergeant at the time, said Wednesday night that he "heard nothing that night" when fellow officer, Scott Flanagan, was conducting the search of then 14-year-old Lisa Allen.

"What Scott Flanagan did to her was a violation of the public trust. He violated the oath of office. He violated the badge," Perry said. "He disgraced the Wareham Police Department and I feel sad for Lisa Allen having to go through this and I have nothing but sympathy for her and her family."

Lisa Allen — who sued the town of Wareham in the 1990s — is not talking to the press, but she issued her statement Wednesday through the lawyer who represented her back then.

WBUR's Bob Oakes speaks with Allen's lawyer from back then, Howard Friedman, about why Allen thinks Perry should not hold political office.
