Mass. Saves Nearly $130M After Consolidating Agencies
Last year's move to consolidate the state's transit agencies has apparently saved the state nearly $130 million.
In a new report, state transit officials say they achieved much of those savings by restructuring highway debt and bringing some services in-house.
President of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, Michael Widmer, says much of the savings have already been realized.
"I think in the end, the question is beyond dollar savings — how well do we the state, manage our transportation systems," he says.
Widmer says the consolidation could save more than $2 billion over 20 years.
