UMass Set To Hand Out Stem Cells

BOSTON — Researchers at University of Massachusetts Medical School are now ready to distribute stem cells worldwide, according to the school’s senior director of the Human Stem Cell Bank and Registry Joseph Laning.

Laning said the bank will be an important resource for scientists developing new treatments for diseases such as cancer.

“Having the bank in Massachusetts really sort of puts Massachusetts at the forefront of the life science innovation, and really moves us at least one step forward to discovering a new treatment,” he said.

Laning said the stem cell bank will free researchers from the time and expense of manufacturing stem cell lines themselves.
