A former deputy chief of staff for Gov. Deval Patrick says lobbyist Richard McDonough told him approving a software contract could help improve relations between the governor and then-House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi.
David Morales testified in federal court Tuesday about conversations he had in 2007 with McDonough, a close friend of DiMasi.
Morales said McDonough told him the contract for performance management software was an important DiMasi priority and signing it could improve a cool relationship between him and the governor.
DiMasi, McDonough and Richard Vitale are accused of scheming to steer state software contracts to Cognos in exchange for kickbacks.
Also Tuesday, the jury saw telephone records appearing to show calls between the defendants and key players in the case on what prosecutors said were significant dates.
The prosecution could rest its case Wednesday.
