City Coalition Kicks Off Annual 'Summer Of Peace'

Boston's TenPoint Coalition on Friday kicked off its annual campaign to discourage summer violence.

This year marks the fourth annual "summer of peace" organized by the coalition, a faith-based group that brings together churches and other partners, including law enforcement.

The Rev. Jeffrey Brown, TenPoint Coalition's director, says that despite the high-profile shooting of a 4-year-old boy earlier this week, shootings are down this year, and the group has had successes.

"We're not asking for people to love each other, but we are asking people to respect each other's space and each other's integrity so that everybody can live," Brown said.

The coalition is planning numerous picnics and other summer events to keep kids busy.
