Local Somali Leaders Ask Public To Aid Famine Victims

Somali leaders in Boston are asking for the public's help to aid those affected by the famine in Somalia. The Somali Development Center, in Boston, is collecting donations for the effort.

But the group's director, Abdirahman Yusuf, said leaders need to address larger issues.

"This is a problem now," he said. "What will stop it from happening again another six months from now, a year from now? What is the broader plan to avoid this kind of situation?"

Yusuf said his group has collected less than $5,000 in donations — $70,000 short of its goal.
