BOSTON — Police are investigating after a young man was fatally shot on a city dock after apparently getting off a Boston Harbor cruise boat.

Authorities said the man was pronounced dead after being shot early Monday morning on the Northern Avenue dock. Police said the man, whose name was not released, was in his 20s. No arrests have been reported.

Boston police said in a statement that a preliminary investigation determined that the victim had been on a harbor cruise aboard the Viking Starliner and that the shooting occurred on the dock after the vessel pulled in.

Police are investigating the possibility that the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation that occurred on the ship.

No other information was immediately available.
