Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency in response to the impacts of the severe winter storm, allowing him to mobilize the National Guard to help hard-hit cities and towns Sunday morning. Heavy wet snow combined with significant wind conditions caused most of the significant power outages across the commonwealth.

National Grid spokesman Jackie Barry says it is still too early to assess the full impact.

Snowfall totals broke records in Massachusetts, topping 26 inches in Windsor and nearly 25 inches in Plainfield.

Although the storm may be winding down, emergency officials say people should be on the lookout for more falling limbs because the snow is so wet and heavy.
