The Associated PressUMass To Review Ex-President’s Pay Package

BOSTON — The University of Massachusetts is reviewing an agreement that allows former president Jack Wilson to continue drawing his $425,000 presidential salary while on a yearlong sabbatical.

The agreement also calls to pay him nearly triple the average salary of senior faculty when he begins teaching next year at UMass-Lowell.

James Karam, chairman of the UMass board of trustees, tells The Boston Globe the compensation committee will review the process that set the terms of Wilson’s transition to ensure it complies with university policies. The panel is expected to reach a conclusion in January.

The agreement was reached with the former chairman, who consulted the compensation committee in defining the terms, but was not required to discuss the details with the full board or to make the agreement public.

It would be wonderfull if this obscene amount of pay be made payable to a fund for students at the university that need help more than someone on sabbatical!

This is obscene.  I’m not giving any more money until he is paid a salary more in line with other faculty.
