Higher Revenue Forecast, But State Says 'Another Tough Year'

State budget officials are forecasting an increase in tax revenue next year — but not enough of an increase to cover rising costs.

State Administration and Finance Secretary Jay Gonzalez says residents again have to brace for cuts to programs and services.

"Many, many people are going to see level-funded budgets and, in some cases, cuts in budgets, and in some cases even elimination of funding, so it's going to be another tough year," Gonzalez said.

A group of state lawmakers and aides to the governor has agreed to base the next state budget on the projection of nearly $22 billion in tax revenue next year.
