Updated at 4:00 PM, February 1st, 2012

BOSTON — UMass Memorial Health Care is planning to cut hundreds of jobs as it looks for ways to cut expenses.

The hospital system will lay off 150 workers across all levels. It also plans to sell several divisions within the company.

All told, as many as 900 people could be affected by the changes.

UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester is the largest hospital in the system, which also includes four smaller community hospitals.

The system lost money last quarter, and had 6 percent fewer patients than a year ago.
