Mattapan Witness Says He's Testifying Because Of Mother, Son Killings

The star government witness in a quadruple murder trial says he agreed to testify because of the mother and child killed in the 2010 Mattapan shootings.

Under cross-examination Thursday, defense attorneys asked Kimani Washington if he was afraid that family members of a fifth victim, who was paralyzed in the shooting, would attack him if they learned about his role.

"I didn't consider anybody any more dangerous than me," Washington testified. "I had the capability of doing what they were capable of doing."

Washington has admitted to robbing the Mattapan drug dealer who was later killed, but he claims he left his two accomplices before the shootings took place.

On Thursday, Washington was asked again before his drinking before the robbery.

"I think we've established that I've been drinking all day," Washington said. "How many times are you going to ask me? I was drinking. Yes, I was drinking."

"OK," responded defense lawyer John Cunha, "and when you drink your Hennessy, you mix it with Red Bull, right?"

"If I say no this time, will it change?" Washington replied.
