Google and Cape Air announced Thursday they will team up to introduce a new reservations and booking system that Google says will revolutionize the industry.

Google's Vice President of Travel Jeremy Wertheimer said the new system took thousands of "man years" to create and will make it faster for airline agents to make reservations.

Wertheimer and Cape Air CEO Dan Wolf joined WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the venture.

Wolf says the new system could eventually let users manage flights with their smart phones and explained the type of information the system can deliver right to a phone.

"If your flight is half an hour early, [the new system] can say, you know, you were scheduled to get off and wait three hours and get on this next flight, but because you're a half hour early, we figured out there's another flight you can get in which is leaving in 45 minutes," Wolf said.

This program aired on March 1, 2012.
