Demand For Kindergarten Slots Rises Sharply In Boston

BOSTON — Boston Public School officials are reporting a sharp spike in demand for kindergarten slots.

Applications for kindergarten seats have increased by more than 25 percent compared to last year. As a result, 300 of those applicants have been placed on waiting list.

Superintendent Carol Johnson joined WBUR’s Morning Edition to discuss the spike in demand.

After hearing the broadcast story, I hope that Boston schools do a better job at
answering test questions than was done by their school superintendent. None of
the answers responded to the question asked. Each answer was how great a job was
being done by her and her staff. For example, when asked whether she was
surprised by the 25% jump in applications for kindergarten, she just rolled out
the campaign speech and failed to respond the questioners point entirely.
Hopefully, they are doing a better job preparing the students in the charge for
    the real world challenges.
