The warrant charges Peter Castillo, 23, with the murder of 22-year-old Stephen Perez, of Revere. Police did not cite a motive for the shooting.

Police have been actively searching for Castillo, and the Homicide Unit is asking for the public's help in locating the suspect.

Anyone with information on Castillo's whereabouts can call the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470. Individuals who want to provide anonymous information can contact the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text the word “tip” to CRIME (27463).

Perez, who had recently returned from a deployment in Afghanistan, was fatally shot in the early morning hours of April 28 on Tremont Street.

Perez was enrolled in college and had sought a career in law enforcement.

As we reported, following the fatal shooting, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino called for certain clubs in the Theater District to stagger their closing hours. But the city's licensing board said it can't unilaterally take action on bar hours unless a shooting is specifically tied to one club.

This program aired on June 8, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
