Eyes Fixed On Needham Gymnast Aly Raisman
Needham-native and Burlington trained Aly Raisman has been all over the news lately – partly because of the video that went viral yesterday showing her parents writhing nervously in their seats as they watched their daughter perform on the uneven bars. In the video, Lynn and Ricky Raisman squirm and jerk in response to each part of their daughter’s performance, until finally screaming “stick it!” referring to the final, steady landing at the end of a routine. The video ends with loud cheers from both parents and a cathartic scream from her father.
What makes this story just a little bit sweeter is the tweet that Aly sent after seeing the video had gone viral:

Gawker’s Max Read summed up the majority of Twitter’s reaction to the video in his comment, “Dear NBC: for training your cameras on this, everything is forgiven”
During the qualifying rounds on Sunday, Aly beat world champion Jordyn Wieber out of the all-around competition. Her performances in the all-around competition places her first in the U.S. team All-Around Individual Gymnast.
Today, Aly competes at 11:30AM ET for the Gymnastics Women’s Team Finals. If the U.S. Team competes well enough, they could be the second U.S. women’s gymnastics team to ever take home the gold medal. Be sure to check out Aly and the entire U.S. women’s team’s performance, which will broadcast on time-delay tonight starting at 8PM.
