Shoppers, Stores Ready For Sales Tax Holiday

This weekend, Massachusetts consumers will not have to pay the state's 6.25 percent sales tax on most items under $2,500.

Massachusetts Retailers Association president Jon Hurst says the sales tax holiday is a big boon to store owners, who might otherwise lose customers to online retailers or tax-free New Hampshire.

"It's going to bring in a lot of new income for employers and employees as well," Hurst said. "It's going to return in a lot economic benefits to Massachusetts as opposed to sending those dollars elsewhere."

Hurst says retailers expect to bring in around $500 million over the two days.
