Police: Woman Raped In Harvard Yard

A woman was raped as she walked through Harvard Yard early Friday morning, according to the Harvard University Police Department.

The university's Police Department reported on their website that the victim entered the Yard through Johnson Gate at approximately 3:15 a.m. Friday. She was then grabbed and pulled behind Massachusetts Hall and attacked.

Police say the victim, who is not affiliated with the university, described her attacker as "very tanned," possibly Hispanic, in his mid-20s with a medium build and dark hair.

The Harvard Crimson reported that the university's police spokesperson Steven Catalano says the assault is the first stranger rape reported on campus in more than 12 years.

Police say they will increase patrols in and around the Yard and the surrounding campus.
