Hampshire College Establishes Fund For Undocumented Immigrants

Hampshire College in Amherst has established a new scholarship fund for students who are illegal immigrants. It is believed to be the first scholarship fund of its kind in Massachusetts.

Hampshire says that it has raised $300,000 so far — enough to pay full tuition for one student ever four years. And, it plans to keep building that endowment.

Margaret Cerullo, a professor of sociology at Hampshire, spearheaded the efforts to create this scholarship. She joined WBUR’s All Things Considered Friday to discuss the fund.
