The Republican National Convention kicked off in Tampa, Fla., on Monday with a banging of a gavel in a largely empty convention hall. That's due to Tropical Storm Isaac, which has prompted convention planners to delay many of their first-day activities until Tuesday.

So right after the convention was called to order at about 2 p.m. on Monday, it was immediately recessed in hopes that the worst of the storm will blow over by Tuesday.

Bob Oakes joined All Things Considered host Sacha Pfeiffer for an update on how the tropical storm is impacting the convention.

This program aired on August 27, 2012.
