Mass. Foreclosure Activity Declines In Sept.

Foreclosure activity declined in Massachusetts last month, according to figures released Tuesday by real estate publisher The Warren Group.

Statewide foreclosure petitions dropped in September to 973, a 16 percent decline from September 2011 and the lowest monthly number of petitions since May 2011.

"The pace of homes entering the foreclosure process slowed in September, another strong indicator of a housing market recovery," said the group's CEO, Timothy Warren Jr., in a statement.

Last month, the group said 510 foreclosure deeds were recorded in Massachusetts, a 32 percent drop when compared to September 2011.

According to CEO Warren, it's the fourth straight month of declining foreclosure deeds.
