Mass. GOP To Plot Party's Future In Plymouth

After suffering big losses in last week's election, Massachusetts Republicans will gather in Plymouth Tuesday night to assess the party's direction.

The party saw not only the loss of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, both nationally, and here in Massachusetts, but also the defeat of U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, and the loss of four of the party's 37 seats in the state legislature.

While many polls had long predicted Romney would not carry the state he governed for four years, the party was banking on Brown retaining his seat, first won in a special election almost three years ago. As a result, there's likely to be plenty of finger pointing at Tuesday's meeting.

Some conservatives in the party lay blame on Chairman Bob Maginn. He came under fire soon after he was named to the post last year, when it was learned he had given campaign donations in the past to Democrats, including Gov. Deval Patrick. Last week, a page urging Maginn be fired was created on Facebook.
