Federal Arts Leader To Retire
Rocco Landesman, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, plans to retire at the end of this year, the federal arts agency reported today.
"The time has come for me to become a cliché: I turned 65, am going to retire, and cannot wait to spend more time in Miami Beach," he said in a prepared statement.
Landesman, who has led the federal arts agency since August 2009, had previously been a Broadway theater producer, which included presenting Tony Award-winning versions of "Angels in America" and "The Producers." As NEA chief, he's made frequent appearances across New England to promote "creative economy" initiatives, programs that trumpeted the economic benefits to communities of supporting the arts.
