Report: Driver In MBTA Crash Also Works For City

The MBTA subway driver fired for crashing into another trolley, sending nearly three dozen people to the hospital, has worked a second public sector job for 26 years.

The driver, not publicly identified by T officials, has also been a dispatcher for the Boston Housing Authority, according to an agency spokeswoman.

T officials say he had worked an eight-hour shift at a second job and was driving the Green Line trolley on less than three hours of sleep when he rear-ended another trolley last week.

T rules do not prohibit employees from having a second job, but they are expected to show up for work rested. The 46-year-old man fired had worked for the T since 2006.

A BHA spokeswoman tells The Boston Globe he remains employed there.
