Mass. Group Joins Immigration Reform Campaign

The largest immigrant advocacy group in New England has joined a national campaign gearing to push for comprehensive immigration reforms next year.

The Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, or MIRA, says the "Keeping Families Together" campaign will highlight the crisis of family separation caused by existing immigration policies.

The campaign will promote policies that reflect American values of fairness, justice and equality.

The "Keeping Families Together" is part of the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, a national coalition of grassroots organizations fighting for immigrant rights. Its campaign tour will make stops in Boston, New York and other cities. It will feature family stories, vigils and community dinners that will be recorded and shared with policymakers.

MIRA Executive Director Eva Millona says immigrants are asking the nation to live up to its ideals of compassion and fairness.

This program aired on December 15, 2012. The audio for this program is not available.
