Lawyers Briefly In Court In Cahill Corruption Case

A spokeswoman for Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley says her office is in discussions with lawyers for former state Treasurer Tim Cahill on corruption charges against him, but she has not made a decision yet on whether to re-try him after a jury failed to reach a verdict in his first trial.

Spokeswoman Emalie Gainey said Coakley's office is continuing to review all of its options.

The remarks came Friday after a brief court hearing in which prosecutors and Cahill's lawyers talked privately with Judge Christine Roach. Neither side revealed what was discussed.

Last month, Roach declared a mistrial when jurors said they were hopelessly deadlocked on charges accusing Cahill of scheming to run $1.5 million in taxpayer-funded lottery ads to help his unsuccessful 2010 gubernatorial campaign.

Cahill's former campaign manager, Scott Campell, was acquitted by the same jury.
