Mass. State Troopers Open Fire On Man In Avon

AVON, Mass. — A former Avon police officer is held on charges including assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly driving his pickup truck toward two state troopers who opened fire before the truck hit a state police cruiser.

Forty-eight-year-old Gene Guilbeault of Bridgewater was arraigned Thursday in Stoughton District Court is held until a dangerousness hearing Jan. 30.

His attorney said Guilbeault struck the cruiser when he lost control after being shot in the leg. She said he has mental health issues from trauma during his police service.

Troopers went to an Avon doughnut shop at about 11 p.m. Wednesday after a relative reported Guilbeault was distraught and possibly armed. State police said they fired when he drove his truck toward them. They said it’s not clear yet how Guilbeault was injured. He was treated at a hospital.

Did Guilbeault show a gun? If not, why was he shot? Maybe the police should be in the lockup.

Agreed. He is dangerous but the men who shot him are not? At the very least both sides should be detained until this gets sorted out..

looks like everyone would be safer if cops were not allowed to have guns in this case
