Mass. Weekend Storm Likely Not As Strong As First Predicted

For the third weekend in a row, Massachusetts residents are preparing for more snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon and running until midnight on Sunday night.

"This is going to be a two-part storm with one part coming through Saturday night and potentially a much more potent part coming through Sunday afternoon and the first half of Sunday night," meteorologist Mark Rosenthal said.

He predicts it'll be mostly rain Saturday night, which will change to snow after dawn on Sunday.

In total, Rosenthal expects 3 to 6 inches of snow in Boston, with the most snowfall expected late Sunday afternoon to midnight. Four to 8 inches are expected north and west of Interstate 495.

On the Cape, the National Weather Service said there could be minor coastal flooding during mid-morning high tide on Sunday.

Rosenthal did, however, offer a caveat.

"I just looked at one of the computer models, and they're forecasting up to a foot of snow late Sunday and Sunday night, very close to Boston," he said. "So we're going to have to watch that potential very carefully."
